Fertility of the soil     In our microbial agriculture method, crops are cultivated in the soil as soil culture. So the cultivation starts with making the soil most suitable to and fully functioning for the crop cultivation.
    In the soil cultivation, the key for the smooth growth of crops is soil ability, which is the presence of soil fertility. But what is the ability or fertility of the soil? It can be defined that soil ability ( or fertility) is the power of soil which provides water, nutrition and oxygen which the crops needs as much as and whenever they need, and in the soil microbes are active and prevent harmful bacteria from increasing, and help the crops growing healthy. It can be compared to physical strength of human. To improve the soil into the one with these functions is the aim of the soil building.

    For the smooth growth of crops, providing sufficient amount of sunlight, temperature, air, water, and nutrition which is suitable to the crops is needed. Most of the water and nutrition is consumed by the roots. The roots are breathing and they also need air (oxygen). To smoothly extend the roots with these significant functions, the soil which is the culture medium of the roots is needed to be an environment where the roots can easily extend. The roots can be compared to intestinal wall (absorption) and the soil can be compared to the stomach and intestines (digestion and decomposition) of human body. However much quantity of fertilizer you give, if the soil can not digest or the roots can not absorb it, the crops can not grow, as if however high nutritional value the food has, if digestive and decomposing function of the stomach and intestines are deteriorated (due to diarrhea or indigestion), it doesn't nourish our body. To make these functions fully work, the humus and the microbes are essential.

Shimamoto Microbial Method to improve soil fertility     In our microbial method, we have three main techniques.
1.Soil building by soil yeast and warm brewed compost
2.Healthy growth by fermented organic fertilizer
3.Promoting photosynthesis and supplying glucose and minerals by foliar spray

    We promote agricultural method which enables farmers to practice sustainable agriculture which enhances soil ability without depending on agro-chemicals nor degrading the soil, by applying our method such as soil disinfection which uses solar heat and fermentation heat, which we newly developed and practice, with other method of ours.
Here we give a over view of our method including main part of our technique.

1.Soil building by Soil yeast and warm brewed compost     Since long time ago, it has been said that "Start soil building with compost". The main purpose of the application of compost for soil building is to enhance physicochemical condition (air permeability, drainage ability, water hold capacity, fertilizer hold capacity) and to increase the porosity and also to enhance tilth of the soil. By applying compost, various nutrients produced during the process of decomposition in the soil which have well-balanced component necessary for the healthy plant growth. These nutrients also have lasting fertilizer effects and enable healthy growth of crops.

    Good quality composts release amino-acids, sugars, higher alcohols, organic-acids, and minerals during the process of humification. This process and these nutrients improve ecosystem of living things which called microflora unique to the soil, and reduce habitat density of pest and disease causing bacteria. It is effective to build healthy soil. In microbial agriculture method, the technique of making good quality composts is considered the most important and we have been researching to make composts which make much neutral complete humus. Aerobically fermented compost, which is warm brewed compost, is the result of our long time research.
    "Soil yeast" which we have been researching and developing since the beginning of our microbial agricultural method, is also very important part of our soil building technique. Soil yeast is a material for soil improvement, which contains useful saprobic aerobic bacteria, actinomycetes, yeast, and mold. These bacteria are forming stable colony in Soil yeast.
The number of them is immense and more than a few hundred million to more than a billion in one gram of Soil yeast. Soil yeast improve the ecosystem in the soil and prevent the activity of disease causing bacteria. Due to the work of enzyme the microbes in Soil yeast gives, citric-acid soluble phosphate, potassium, magnesia, and lime are solubilized, and fertilizer effect is enhanced and also physciochemical condition of the is improved. Soil yeast has these overall effects.

Organic fermented fertilizer
    In our microbial agricultural method, we use organic fertilizer for cultivation of crops. However, if it's not properly used, even an organic fertilizer causes lack of oxygen in the soil and also outbreak of harmful gas, pest and disease and so on. Therefore, we remove these harmful effects of the organic fertilizer before applying it to the soil, by the fermentation similar to the brewing process of Japanese Sake and Miso (fermented soybean paste) and also the process of hydrolysis. Through this hydrolytic fermentation process, protein in the organic fertilizer is hydrolyzed into amino-acid and one of the amino-acid called proline is produced. By the absorption of proline from the roots, the ability of photosynthesis in the plant is enhanced, and it increases sugar content in the plant body by producing glucose. It is taken for granted that good weather brings good harvest. It is because photosynthesis of the plant is promoted under the good weather and increase sugar content of the plant body.
     By the work of hydrolysis the fertilizer is decomposed continuously for a long time and its effect is stable. Also the roots absorb the fertilizer in good balance and it promotes photosynthesis. Organic fermented fertilizer promotes the activity of useful microbes in the soil, and it promotes decomposition of unavailable form phosphate, magnesium and micro nutrients, and enhances the absorption of these nutrients. To enhance sugar content in the plant body leads to healthy growth of the plant and also to enhance sweetness and eating quality.
    Not only that, a large amount of yeast grows in the fermented fertilizer and these yeast produce nucleic acid, vitamin Bs, UGF (Unknown Growth Factor) and various hormones. Nucleic acid is easily absorbed from the roots and leaves, and enhances cold resistance, promotes cell division, and also increases sugar content of the plant body. Vitamin Bs enhance the quality of the plants themselves and the harvest.
    Thus the organic fermented fertilizer not only becomes nutrients for the plants but also becomes the culture medium and the habitat for the useful microbes in the soil and promotes their propagation. By increasing these useful microbes, the density of the harmful bacteria in the soil is decreased.



Phosphate fermented fertilizer
    In the soil of Japan, the natural supply of the phosphoric-acid is not much. Not only that, the phosphoric-acid of this form is not easily absorbed by the plants. The phosphate fermented fertilizer is aimed to work the phosphoric acid well. There are a wide range of effects by the positive use of the phosphate fermented fertilizer, from raising soil temperature, promoting the growth of roots, increase the production of glucose by photosynthesis, and to promoting tillering of growth point.
The use of the phosphate fermented fertilizer also leads to enhance reproductive function, to increase the flower setting and the fertility rate, and to increase fruit set rate. As a result, the phosphate fermented fertilizer contributes to enhance the ability of fruiting, coloring and sugar content in the plant body. It becomes important nutrients for the useful microbes and by the propagation of bacteria and yeast in the soil hydrolytic function of the soil is enhanced.

Fermented enzyme liquid fertilizer      Tenkei Green Grass Liquid Fertilizer
    Tenkei liquid fertilizer is a liquid fertilizer which is extracted from the plant leaves which is full of the chlorophyll by fermentation. The extract from the leaves contains amino-acid and mineral salts of more than 20 kinds and it is equivalent to the blood for the human. Tenkei liquid fertilizer contains well-balanced nutrients and other elements vital for the plants.
    Tenkei liquid fertilizer produces much fermentation product during the process of fermentation, and the work of plant growth hormone (auxin and cytokinin) is the most remarkable of them all. By using it for watering, rooting of the hair-like thin roots is promoted, and also very effective for development of new roots. In addition, the water which contains Tenkei liquid fertilizer makes the cluster of water small, and easily permeates into the soil. It helps the provision of oxygen to the soil and it has many other good effects. Using Tenkei liquid fertilizer continuously promotes the aggregation of soil, decomposes and changes the unused fertilizer components (minerals) to available from, and promotes the propagation of useful microbes. Tenkei means the gift from the heaven and it is exactly so and the ultimate recycle enzyme liquid fertilizer.

3.Glucose and mineral supply and promotion of photosynthesis by foliar spray     In the way of foliar spray of microbial method, which promotes photosynthesis, the spray solution mainly consists of sugars such as active glucose and fructose which are produced during the decomposition process by enzyme and easily permeate to cellar tissues. In addition to these sugars, it contains fermentation products which are produced during the cultivation process of microbes such as amino-acid, various organic-acid, alcohols, nucleic-acid, vitamins, a group of enzyme, plant hormone, and UGF. It permeates from the leaf surface to the plant body and adjusts the physiological function of crops. By supplying glucose artificially, which is produced by photosynthesis normally, the reproductive function and the ability of fruiting is enhanced. It improves the disease resistance ability of the crops, which grew soft and weak due to lack of sun light or excessive nitrogen, and make it healthier. It raises the possibility of agriculture without agrochemicals. From these effects, it is also called "Brown sugar plant protective".

Soil disinfection by solar and fermentation heat

    Monoculturistic cultivation which continues to cultivate same kind of crops repeatedly exhausts the soil and causes the unbalance of micro-flora in the soil. It inevitably causes replant failure. Shimamoto Microbial Method applied fermentation heat to the conventional soil disinfection by solar heat, and prevents harmful microbes in the soil. Unlike the conventional soil disinfection by chemicals which disinfects the soil thoroughly, in addition to the solar heat, the soil disinfection of our microbial method uses fermentation heat and natural enemy effect by useful microbes to rid only harmful microbes which is easily affected by heat. So it does not disturb the ecosystem in the soil after the disinfection. At the same time, useful microbes increases in large numbers after the disinfection and decreases the density of harmful microbes continuously. It improves biochemical condition of the soil and prevents replant failure.
     The conventional solar disinfection is only possible for the field which can be filled with water and the field needs to be left unused for 1 month (under the sunny weather), however Soil Clean of Shimamoto Microbial Method uses fermentation heat, and it is possible to disinfect the field with less water and the field can be used in 2 weeks (under the sunny weather).
